SAVE OUR HOSPITAL SUCCESS
Over 4,000 Brent residents signed the petition and I would like to thank you all for your support. The overwhelming response of Brent residents has
been to send a clear message to Hospital Officials that local residents will not tolerate losing vital services at their local hospital.
The support of Brent residents for this campaign has led to any possible closure of Central Middlesex Hospital being taken
off the agenda, with Hospital Officials and Government Ministers giving assurances that the Accident and Emergency unit at Central Middlesex Hospital will stay open. This
is a real achievement that we can all be proud of.
Unfortunately, Brent Primary Care Trust which runs health services in Brent is currently in deficit and will be having to make
difficult choices over the coming months about how they will save the money necessary to pay off their debt. The Liberal Democrats who control Brent Council have been making the situation
worse by refusing to pay money that they owe Brent Primary Care Trust. I have
been meeting with the Primary Care Trust to examine their turnaround plans and to tell them that essential services should not be affected. I have been assured that the closure of some
beds at Willesden Community Hospital is temporary and that no-one has been left without medical attention or a bed if needed. It is important that we all use our local
health services so they do not close – some of the Health Centres have not been used enough to break even. I have also been lobbying the Government for more funds for Brent Primary Care
Trust and I will keep you updated of the progress of these talks. Together we will continue to build a better Brent.
